Field Trip to Montijo – Exploring the Saltmarsh Ecosystem

On March 24, 2025, Mechanical Engineering students took part in a field trip to the Montijo saltmarsh, organised under the ClimForCE project.
The aim was to explore the dynamics, importance, and threats to saltmarsh ecosystems, such as erosion and coastal squeeze, as well as the vital services they provide, including flood protection and carbon storage.

The team demonstrated how Copernicus data, including Sentinel imagery, supports monitoring and assessment, showing the value of remote sensing in ecosystem management.
